SUMMARY:Second Annual Pilgrimage to the U.S. Southern Border
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to share this upcoming event hosted by The Good Shepherd United Church of Christ\, Heartland Conference United Church of Christ\, and Plymouth Church United Church of Christ! \nJoin the Second Annual Pilgrimage to the U.S. Southern Border on January 13-19th\, 2025.  The all-inclusive cost of this 6-day international pilgrimage: $1\,596. Let the narrative of fear be replaced by relationships empowered with love. \nRegister Here\n \n  \nWhat can I expect to see and do while on this pilgrimage? \nOn Monday\, we will visit and have lunch at the world-renowned Heard Museum of Indigenous Culture in Phoenix\, before driving to our Green Valley\, Arizona lodging. \nEarly Tuesday\, we will travel through the Douglas Port of Entry into Mexico and spend a full day at Frontera de Cristo\, a mission of the Presbyterian Church USA\, in partnership with the UCC and other denominations\, where borders are seen as places for encounter\, compassion\, and the sharing of culture. \nAfter a morning of quiet conversations\, rest\, and reflection on Wednesday\, we will visit two “borderland” towns; we’ll walk along the border wall\, eat with citizens who live in these towns\, do some shopping\, visit an Audubon center learning about the native species of plants\, animals and especially birds. After a dinner at the culturally divergent restaurant\, Velvet Elvis\, we’ll return to our resort lodging\, perhaps dipping into the heated outdoor pool before evening blessings and bedtime. \nThursday\, Friday\, and Saturday we will gather with other persons from across the United States and Canada\, at the annual event called Commonground on the Border. A mission of The Good Shepherd\, United Church of Christ congregation\, Commonground… brings together persons who have similar questions to the ones we all have about immigration. Through field trips\, workshops\, speakers\, and conversations we will learn and process new information; by engaging music\, writing\, and the visual arts\, pilgrims find common ground at this three-day event and find joy and celebration in the midst of confronting the humanitarian tragedies of immigration. This year’s keynote speaker is international Civil Rights icon\, Dolores Huerta\, a friend and co-worker of Cesar Chavez\, and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012. \nSunday\, prior to our departure from home\, we will worship at The Southside Presbyterian Church in Tucson\, founding church of the Sanctuary Movement. These are some of the things you will do on this pilgrimage. \nPLEASE NOTICE: High School students\, under 18 years old\, are welcome to participate in this event if they are accompanied and registered by a Custodial Parent/Legal Guardian. \nFor a full information packet including itenarary\, speaker bios\, field trip and class session options\, and more\, please contact: Rev Brenda Grauer pilgrimagebjg2024@gmail.com or Cell: 216 533 5546.

SUMMARY:Climate Fresk: Using Gamification to Understand Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:Climate Fresk is a gamified workshop that teaches participants how everything is connected in the climate crisis. The goal is to empower participants with an understanding and language to be able to speak to nuanced issues\, and empower them to build a foundation to move a community towards action. The material is based on the most comprehensive source of climate data\, leveraged by governments and businesses globally\, the United Nation’s IPCC report. \nThis three-part workshop is segmented into learning about climate science\, processing climate anxiety\, and ends with a collective brainstorm. It’s been played by more than 1 million participants globally\, in universities\, governments\, and large organizations\, and is chosen as the standard for education in different sectors – the French government has chosen it as their gold standard and is training 25k employees in the next three years. \nThis workshop is the first of a two-part training to become a facilitator yourself and this tool can be leveraged in a professional capacity within governments\, organizations\, or in your local community. SUMMARY:Columbus Crossing Borders Project Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Art Exhibit and Documentary Film \nWe are excited to feature the Columbus Crossing Borders Project in our Gardenview Gallery. The exhibit was created to inspire critical thinking\, compassion\, and support for the millions of people who have been forced to flee their homes due to war\, climate\, violence\, and persecution. The art exhibit contains 34 refugee-themed paintings that “cross borders” and connect with one another.  \nThe documentary film “Breathe Free” will also be shown. It provides a visual journey of this art exhibit alongside first-person accounts shared by refugees who have made the United States their home. Both the exhibit and film have touched the hearts of thousands while being seen in galleries\, schools\, community centers\, and theaters across the United States. \nWe recommend viewing this 55-minute documentary to enrich the exhibit experience. You can watch it here or at the exhibit where it will be running on a loop. \n \nViewing Hours: \nTuesday and Thursday 12:00 – 3:00 PM \nWednesdays 5:00 – 7:00 PM \nSaturdays 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM or by appointment \nEmail admin@communitylifecollaborative.org or call 440-708-1961.
