Recycling Program
Make a difference in our community by reducing waste!
We’re proud to announce that Ohio EPA has awarded Community Life Collaborative a grant for a robust recycling program and education at the Family Life Center! Look for the new recycling stations that accept plastic bottles, glass, cans, cardboard and paper. These efforts complement our composting program with Chagrin Falls Meals on Wheels and Cleveland Field Kitchen, both housed in the Family Life Center. Across the year, we will be measuring how much waste is being diverted from landfills as a result of this program.
Benefits of Reducing and Reusing
- Reduces greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.
- Prevents pollution caused by reducing the need to harvest new raw materials.
- Saves energy.
- Reduces greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global climate change.
- Helps sustain the environment for future generations.
- Reduces the amount of waste that will need to be recycled or sent to landfills and incinerators.
- Allows products to be used to their fullest extent.
- Saves money.

Recycling 15 glass bottles saves enough energy to power a laptop for 31.5 hours! Check out more recycling facts here.
How much are we diverting from the landfill?
Recycling diverts a significant amount of waste from landfills — typically up to 30-50% of waste. The exact amount depends on factors like the types of materials recycled and consistency. We’ll be tracking our progress and sharing updates soon!
Did You Know?
The CLC recently had 32 incandescent outdoor lamps retrofitted to all LED bulbs. LED bulbs use 80-90% less energy than incandescent and halogen bulbs, which can lower your energy bill and reduce your carbon footprint.

How You Can Help:
Reducing and Reusing Basics
The most effective way to reduce waste is to not create it in the first place. Making a new product emits greenhouse gasses that contribute to climate change and requires a lot of materials and energy – raw materials must be extracted from the earth, and the product must be fabricated then transported to wherever it will be sold.
As a result, reduction and reuse are the most effective ways you can save natural resources, protect the environment and save money.
Donation
One person’s trash is another person’s treasure. Instead of discarding unwanted appliances, tools or clothes, try selling or donating them. Not only will you be reducing waste, you’ll be helping others. Local churches, community centers, thrift stores, schools and nonprofit organizations may accept a variety of donated items, including used books, working electronics and unneeded furniture.
Benefits of Donation
- Prevents usable goods from going into landfills
- Helps your community and those in need
- Tax benefits may be available
Electronics Donation and Recycling
Electronics donation and recycling is a great way to help conserve resources and natural materials. It is important to make sure you are donating and/or recycling electronics safely and correctly.
Preventing Wasted Food At Home
- Set up a compost bin for food scraps like vegetable peels, coffee grounds, and eggshells. This not only reduces waste but can also benefit a garden if you have one.
- Before shopping, make a weekly meal plan, then create a list of only what you need.
- Learn the best ways to store different types of food so they last longer.
- Freeze excess food or leftovers before they go bad.
- When unpacking groceries, place newer items at the back of the fridge or pantry and bring older ones to the front.
- Create an “Eat Me First” bin or basket. This is a dedicate a space in your fridge for items that need to be eaten soon. This visual reminder helps reduce spoilage by encouraging everyone to use them first.
